Hand Carved, Textile Woodblocks / New Shipment

Common Thread has received another supply of wood printing blocks from India. Retired from duty, these masterfully carved woodblocks were used for printing patterns on textiles. In their worn condition, these vintage and semi-vintage blocks are also suitable for printing on paper, or imprinting in clay. Or, they are simply beautiful, as objects for decoration.

From Wikipedia: Woodblocks for textile printing may be made of box, lime, holly, sycamore, plane or pear wood, the latter three being most generally employed. See Article: "Woodblock Printing on Textiles"

100% Cotton ~  44" Wide ~ $13.95/yd
"Woodblock printing on textiles is the process of printing patterns on textiles, usually of linen, cotton or silk, by means of incised wooden blocks. It is the earliest, simplest and slowest of all methods of textile printing. Block printing by hand is a slow process. It is, however, capable of yielding highly artistic results, some of which are unobtainable by any other method." --Wikipedia
